Dear Mr. Berry,
Hi. So I tried to make this look all official so you’ll have more of a reason to be proud of me. But enough about me this is all about you sir! It’s your birthday today! WOW! How old are you now? I can ask you that considering you’re not a woman and there’s no rule about not asking a man his age, loop holes! This probably won’t be your favourite letter or the best letter you’ll ever receive in your life but I hope it’s something you can look back on that will make you feel happy when you're sad and bring you hope when hope is needed. I know sometimes I have days when my hair isn’t so awesome so I feel down and I need something as a little pick me up, we all have those days. Now I’m just kind of rambling and I’m not sure what I should say.
Look, what I’m trying to get at is you’ve been such an amazing person in my life. I’ve known you for six years now. I still remember my first impression of you haha. Now entering a really long story: It was the beginning of sixth grade I had my first project in Social Studies where we had to volunteer to help the “needy” or something and well I had just recently met Pastor Hasker. You see Pastor Hasker had just recently talked to me about joining Operation Go, mind you I’d just recently been “saved” you know the kind of saved where you just said the prayer and things went back to normal but you never forget that night kind of saved, and I’d been meaning to join anyway. So this project was just more of a reason to do what I had been putting off. Sorry I’m losing my track of mind lets skip to that Saturday, I was so into this project with my friend Tiffany that I bought a pink Operation Go shirt that said “Operation Go” on the front and “90% Mentoring” on the back. The coolest but weirdest moment was when this young guy with dirty blonde hair in an Op Go shirt came up to the front to pump us all up about going out to see kids and started singing this dorky but awesome song “adopt a block what time is it?! It’s time to get loud God’s gonna represent! Adopt a block what time is it?!” etc etc. I remember looking at Tiffany and saying “this is crazy” haha we loved it though and met some great kids. I remember when I first really met your wife at the baby shower for Ella and not having a single idea who you guys were. Yet through those times you guys made me feel accepted and as the years progressed I felt loved and like I was a part of the family. Brandon, you're a freaking miracle. You’ve not only been an amazing father to (soon to be) three little girls & an amazing husband to a gorgeous wife but you’ve been and will continue to be a wonderful father to me, a wonderful leader and mentor. I’ve never met someone like you and I can only pray to God that as I get older I’ll make amazing friends like you and live to be a wonderful woman of God. Just so you know when that does happen, remember you played a huge role in that. You aren’t my dad and yes sometimes I feel like I’m pushing your buttons or Nicole’s buttons and I’m still getting to where I feel like you’re okay with my calling you dad and all but I really can’t see anyone else playing the role you’ve played in my life. You’re such an amazing man of God (this is the sentimental part where I’m starting to tear up fyi) & I’m so grateful for every moment I’ve had you and your family in my life. I hope I’m as lucky as Nicole to have a wonderful man of God in my life. If you don’t believe me it’s fine but so not cool Dad. Yeah, I capitalize the “d” in Dad because you deserve it (: and I so just put a smiley face on this letter! I’m not as professional as I seem hm? Oh well I’m being me (with my awesome hair). Don’t forget you have to walk me down the aisle with Pastor Hasker & bring your gun in case my groom changes his mind... Well I have to go but I wanted you to know that I love you as if you really were my dad and I’m so thankful for December 29th it’s one of the best days ever! Have an amazing Birthday and rest of your life Dad!
